Hello Year 2 Superstars! 🌞

As the weather is going to be very hot, we will be completing some learning from home for the next three afternoons. We have been learning all about monarchs in History and how they help lead our country, so your first challenge is to create a fact file about what a monarch is. In Science, we have been thinking about how to look after our planet by reducing, reusing and recycling, so your second challenge is to find 5 items around your home and sort them into these groups. Finally, use your imagination to design something new from recycled materials and draw a picture of your invention.

Can you create a comic strip to retell the story? 
 

In maths, we are looking at statistics, your task is to create a tally chart. This could be the colour of cars you see, the insects you see or your families favourite food.

As well as your learning, make sure you enjoy some fun in the sunshine! You could have a water play afternoon, create some colourful chalk art outside, go on a nature hunt in your garden or local park, blow bubbles, build a den in a shady spot, or have a picnic with your family. Don’t forget to read a book, stay in the shade during the hottest parts of the day, wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water and keep cool.

As we are closed today due to the snow, we would like you to take this opportunity to create new experiences and memories with each other. Below you will find a list of activities that you can complete, or you could think of your own! We would love to see any photos that you have! 
 

• Write a short winter poem or snowy story
• Draw, paint, or colour a snowy scene
• Build a snowman or create patterns and pictures in the snow
• Measure the snow or count steps when walking carefully outside
• Design and label a winter outfit to keep someone warm
• Read a cosy book and talk about your favourite part
• Help an adult to bake something warm, such as biscuits or cakes
• Explore how ice melts indoors and talk about what you notice
• Take photographs of the snow and describe what you can see
