Reception PE morning

We were very lucky to have a visit off Spark Active for our PE morning. We had fun at football and rugby and learnt lots of new skills.

Reception Summer Newsletter

Welcome back to the Summer term, we hope you all had a lovely Easter break.

This half term our project is called ‘Space and Transport’. We will be learning all about the different planets and the solar system. We will be thinking about how we use different forms of transport to take us to different places around the world.

In Literacy we will continue to follow the Read Write Inc programme. Here are some useful websites to support your child with their phonics.

Well done to all of the children who continually send in their reading book every day and thank you for reading with your children at home. Staff in school will continue to hear your child reading their reading book in school during the week so please make sure they have their reading book with them every day. Please ensure that you have signed and dated the diary once you have completed the book to show that you have heard your child read. There is a space for you to write a comment if you wish to. Books will be changed throughout the week, unfortunately we will not be able to send a new book home if you haven’t returned it.

Children visit our school library every fortnight. Please make sure the book is returned before the date stamped in the book in order for them to choose a new book.

In Maths this half term we will be learning about numbers to 20 and number bonds to 10, 3D shapes and their properties as well as different types of patterns. We will also be thinking about addition and subtraction as well as sharing and grouping. Please continue to use Numbots at home so that your children can practise their skills.

PE day will continue to be on a Friday and a reminder that children should come to school dressed in their PE clothes (white T-shirt, black/navy shorts/jogging bottoms, trainers/pumps with Velcro until they are able to tie their own laces) all earrings/jewellery should be removed before school please. If children do come to school with earrings in they will not be able to join in with their PE lesson. We are looking forward to Sports Day which is on Tuesday 21st May in the morning, weather permitting!

A reminder that named water bottles will need to be brought to school each day filled with water (no fizzy or energy drinks). Fruit is provided for the children during snack time each day so the children will not need to bring in their own snack, however, if you would like to send in a piece of fruit for your child each day please feel free to do so. Please ensure all uniform, coats and water bottles are clearly named. Children can have a drink of milk with their snack but in order to receive this you must have registered your child and their class name on the ‘Cool Milk’ website. As soon as your child is 5 there is a charge for the milk.

Just a reminder that gates open at 8.40am and children will need to be in school before 9.00 and then collected at 3.25.

Attendance is really important to us at Timberley Academy and if your child achieves 100% attendance they will receive rewards.  It would be great if the Reception classes are able to win the yummy treat when they receive 5 red attendance tickets. The children in the top 100 are also eligible to have a fun experience at the end of the term and if your child achieves 100% attendance then they will receive a teddy bear.

Thank you all for your continued support.

The Reception Team:

Attendance treat

After receiving 5 attendance certificates, the Ladybird class wanted to watch a film as their treat. They voted for the film they wanted to watch and even enjoyed a cone of popcorn!

What a fantastic week Reception have had.

This week we have investigated how to make circles and triangles.

We have also enjoyed going outside to the farm to make our very own nature paintbrushes. We then used them to paint a mud picture.

We have also had a fantastic day taking part in Children in Need activities. We coloured in Pudsey Bears, did some collaging, joined in with Joe Wickes as well as decorating a biscuit with Pudsey's spots.

Phonics Showcase

Reception staff would like to say a very big thank you to all the parents that were able to make today's Phonics Showcase. We hoped you enjoyed learning more about how Phonics is taught at Timberley Academy and can practise with your children at home.

Vegetable soup

Reception have had a great afternoon making vegetable soup. We chopped, cooked, blended and then finally tasted! Delicious blush

Police visit

Reception would like to say a very big thank you to @ShardEndWMP  for coming into school and talking to us about what they do and how they help people. It was so exciting to have a close look at their uniform, the equipment they use and their police van.
