Computing

Welcome to the Computing page!

Vision Statement

For all our children to have an understanding that computing skills are a major factor in enabling them to be confident, creative and independent learners across the whole curriculum, whilst developing motivation and social skills, as well as equipping them for life in a digital era.

Our Curriculum

We understand that with an ever changing and more technological world, just how important Computing skills are. As as school, we understand that our children will rely on computational skills and digital confidence as they move forward into the wider world. Therefore, Computing at Timberley is now going to be delivered by following the Kapow computing curriculum. This is a rich and broad curriculum fully mapped to ensure full National Curriculum coverage.

Lesson plans are set to deepen pupil knowledge and extend vocabulary. These lessons, include varied and enjoyable recap and retrieval opportunities with cross-curricular opportunities. Our hope and intention with our Computing curriculum is that children can flourish and be creative in Computing whilst developing key skills and understanding.

The National Curriculum programmes of study states:

'The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.'

Therefore, the three strands that run throughout the Kapow curriculum are; Computer science, Information technology and Digital literacy which we hope will help our children to become confident in computing and ready to apply their skills to the wider world.
