⭐️Superstar in the Making!⭐️

A huge congratulations🎉 to Kyrie in Elephants🐘 for completing his signing for Birmingham City Football Club's Under 7's⚽️. All the staff and children in Year 2 could not be more proud of you. 🏴‍☠️ Treasure Island 🏴‍☠️

All of the children in Year 2, have been working really hard during our project 'Treasure Island' 🏴‍☠️. They have been learning all about the capital cities in UK🇬🇧, creating their own maps🗺 and learning about famous Pirates🏴‍☠️. This week during our D&T lesson, Year 2 made their very own pirate cannons using wheels, axels and junk modelling. They worked so hard and would like to share their incredible models with you.⭐️

Year 2 Church Visits⛪️

This week (W.B 28/11/2022), Year 2 walked to All Saints Church⛪️ in Shard End. Once we arrived at Church, we were given a talk all about how Christians celebrate Christmas🎄 and what advent means🕯. Then, we placed our beautifully designed baubles on our Year 2🎄, which we made at school. After that, we were given a tour of the church ⛪️ by some very helpful ladies. Finally, we all ended our visit by singing 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas!' 🎄

Buildings Day! 🧱🛠

During our 'Buildings Day', Year 2 had a fun packed day! We started off by using our maths knowledge of 3D shapes🔴, creating buildings🏙 and structures using spaghetti, marshmallows and play dough. Then we became 👩🏾‍🎨, and sketched famous buildings around the world. After that, we became scientists🥼 and took part in a melting and cooling experiment, using chocolate🍫, butter🧈 and ice🧊. Finally, we became technicians👷🏼‍♂️ and we created various buildings and structures using junk modelling, lego, foam bricks🧱, wooden blocks and meccana.

Bonfire Night 🎇🎆

In honour of Bonfire Night🎇, we decorated firework biscuits🍪 , thanks to Mrs Harris. The children absolutely loved it❤️, their favourite part was eating it! 😋

👨🏿‍⚕️👩🏽‍🍳Black History Month👨🏾‍🎓🕵🏿‍♀️

During October, we have celebrated and learnt all about Black History Month👨🏾‍🎓. We have been exploring texts written by black authors📚, and looking at fiction and non-fiction texts that talk about black history and significant figures🕵🏿‍♀️. We have changed our reading areas so the children have easy access to these texts independently during storytime too! 📔

We have really enjoyed listening to poets such as Maya Angelou👩🏾‍🏫 and Benjamin Zephaniah👨🏿‍🏫 and each class have also explored a key significant person within black history. 
 

Elephants🐘 have been researching all about Bob Marley🇯🇲, listening to his songs🎶, learning facts about his life and even looking at pictures of where Bob Marley lived!

Pandas🐼 have been researching all about Marcus Rashford⚽️. We have enjoyed learning all about not only his football achievements 🏅but also his charity work and petitioning!

Parrots🦜 have been looking at Usain Bolt🏃🏿, looking at his sports performances, talking about facts about his life - and even his favourite food🍗!

We have learnt so much and we are so excited to continue our learning throughout the year!
 

Superhumans 🤸🏻‍♀️🍎

During our 'Superhumans' project the children in Year 2 have enjoyed learning about the human body🧠, our senses👁 and animals and their offspring just to name a few. We have often put on our scientist goggles🥽 and lab coats🥼, undertaking different experiments and exploring different sensory experiences. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this project and would like to share some photos with you. Please see them below:

Welcome back everybody!
We have had such a lovely week this week, getting to know you all and seeing you all return to school with your smart uniforms and your positive attitudes for the year ahead. 
We have had a great time talking to you about your summer holidays and setting our high expectations and even sharing with you our new school rules - Ready, Respectful, Safe. Take a look at our newsletter to see all the useful information that is included about our new year ahead. 
One of our favourite parts of the week was definitely going on a Gruffalo Hunt and meeting the real Gruffalo!
We can't wait for you to see what other adventures we have in store this half term for our project Superhumans. We will be learning all about our body, our senses and our healthy living.
