Timberley Academy

OUR LITERACY WEEK!!!

What an amazing Literacy Week we've had here at Timberley. The 5ers have had a great time.

Our author of the week was Andy Stanton, concentrating on his Mr Gum books. Alongside having a big old laugh at old Gummy and his cronies, we've been doing some script writing, acting and comic strip creation - all based on the world of Lamonic Bibber! We've also had a look at finding the patterns and shapes in our writing, focusing on how sentence length can create a 'music' to our writing. See Gary Provost's passage for more info...

Our week kicked off with a special visit from author and illustrator Simon Murray, who came into the help us all create our very own creature in the Icky Doo-Dah world. The 5ers loved it and want to say thank you again to Simon for his time. Check out Icky via his website here: http://www.ickydoodah.com/.

Thursday saw us all dress up for World Book Day, with everyone making an excellent effort in their outfits. We had princesses, soldiers, monkeys, bears, you name it - all from our own favourite books and comics. Best dressed prize goes to Lisa, for her super homemade Tin Man costume.

We were also given the chance to spend a lesson in the hall completing a range of Literacy activities. There were tasks such as reading to one another, writing on laptops, producing our own book marks, writing book reviews, designing book covers, playing with puppets, and lots more!
