A HUGE welcome to Year 5's page! We have had a great start to this year.
Some of Year 5 started off the year with a very adventurous trip to Woodlands. We spent 4 nights and 5 days getting very wet, muddy and tired! Pictures will be posted soon!
Check back soon to find out all about 'The Great, the Bold and the Brave' - our project for this half term.
We have also been doing some fantastic fiction writing based on the myth of Prometheus and Pandora. Stay tuned for some examples of our writing.
As part of our Spanish lessons, we have been learning about the artist Pablo Picasso. We found out about his life and his different style of paintings. In particular, we learnt about Cubism and we experimented with a Cubism portrait of our own.
Check out our finished portraits!
This term we have been learning about the scientific processes that are involved in baking bread. As part of this, we had the opportunity to design, make and taste our very own variety of bread.
Times Table Rock Stars
In year 5, we are loving practising our times tables using the Times Tables Rockstars programme. We have seen a massive improvement in both the children's knowledge and their enjoyment of learning their times tables. We have had regular battles within our year group and one with year six. We beat them by a huge difference (they don't like to talk about it much!). A huge well done to our top scorers of the battles so far! Keep up the hard work everyone!
This term, Year 5 are learning all about the eye and the ear. We have looked at how sounds travels through different materials and used this to create sound proof boxes! Sound travels best through solids, and we created string telephones to prove it!
We now know how different pitches are made using different length string and are designing and making our own musical instruments.
We have also learned about periscopes - what they are used for, how they work and even created some of our own.
