Wow! What a day the children have had today. We had so much fun! The children loved having a ride on the donkeys. Magic Paul's magic show was very funny and we were all amazed by his magic! The candy floss and tuck shop were special treats that everyone enjoyed and to top it all off we had the chance to decorate a cake. Thank you so much Miss Rose for providing us with such a special day.
I have enjoyed being in Reception because... sheet
This week has been local area week. We have been looking at the places we live and our local area Shard End. We have been looking at the different types of houses in Shard End and talking about our community. We have had exciting activities out in the classroom during choosing time and we would like to share them with you here...
Reception are very excited to tell you that last week, we had a piece of the moon here in our school! The moon came all the way from space and was brought down to Earth by a space rocket. We examined the piece of the moon, and talked about space and found out exciting facts about the moon. We also went outdoors and looked at the big blow up planets. We learnt all about the different planets and facts about our Solar System. We also conducted an experiment to test what affects the size of a crater on the moon. Take a look at our pictures!
We have been very busy with our project of Superheroes looking at the story of Superworm! Mr Ball came to visit us in Reception to help us create our own wormery. He told us all about how to look after the worms and the things we needed such as soil, leaves and even poo! Take a look at our pictures below.
Today, Reception have enjoyed taking part in lots of Easter activities. We made chocolate Easter nests, an Easter basket, Easter craft and an Easter number hunt. The children even got to meet the Easter bunny! What an exciting day we have had.
The children have had a wonderful time bringing their teddy bears to school today. We took part in an exciting maths lesson which involved sharing out cakes between the bears, halving jam sandwiches and counting picnic items in twos! We all came together to enjoy a teddy bear's picnic which was so much fun. We're sure the teddy bears enjoyed themselves too!
On Friday, we will be holding a Teddy Bear's Picnic in Reception! We would like to invite all of the Reception children to bring in their favourite teddy to enjoy the picnic with them. Lunch will be as normal for the children, this will be an activity we are doing on the afternoon. We cannot wait to celebrate all things we have discovered during our Fairytale topic.
This week we watched the Numberblocks episode of Building Blocks. The Numberblocks rescued a friendly alien by building a tower to the stars using different combinations of the Numberblocks. We decided to make our own rockets to get the alien back home using Numicon. We found lots of different ways to make the rocket.
After reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk we decided to try and grow our very own beanstalks! We planted some bean seeds and looked after them carefully by watering them and placing them in the sunlight. It has been fascinating watching them grow (we have had to plant some more beans for the few that didn't grow!) Take a look at the pictures.
We had so much fun making our very own gingerbread men and all had a try at mixing, rolling and cutting out the gingerbread men. We then had fun decorating them with icing pens. Take a look to see how fantastic they were.
Welcome back, we hope you all had a super half term and managed to tick off some of the activities that were on the Activity Passport. Thank you to those that have returned their passports, we will keep these until Easter and we will send them back home again for you to complete.
This half term we will be focussing on the topic of Fairy Tales. On Friday (1st March) we would like the children to bring in their favourite story book as part of our Entry point for them to share with the class.
Next Friday (8th March) we will be celebrating World Book Day. The children can come to school dressed as their favourite book character.
Thank you for all your continued support,
The Reception team.
Thank you to everybody who came to the Science workshops this week. We hope you found it useful, we know the children loved taking part in the activities with you. Take a look at the photos below!
Luckily, Mr Quinn found the dinosaur last night and has sent him back to Dinosaur Land in the time machine! Phew!
Today we came into school to find mysterious footprints in our classrooms and one of our dinosaur eggs had hatched! We looked at our cameras to investigate and found this...
Egg-citing Science!
Today we have been Dino Rescuers! Some of the Dino's escaped our classroom and ended up frozen. Our job was to rescue the Dinosaurs using different materials. We had sand, water, tin foil, woolly gloves, a hairdryer and salt. We made predictions and worked in groups using the different materials to rescue the Dino's in the fastest time. Have a look at our photos!
We have enjoyed exploring fossils this week and even had our own archaeological dig. We had lots of fun creating our own fossils out of clay and tried hard to use the different tools to recreate the bones of dinosaurs. Take a look at our photos!
We are very excited to be starting our new project of 'Dinosaurs and Animals'. The children have already shared lots of ideas about dinosaurs and animals and we have thought about things that we would like to find out.
P.E. day is still on a Tuesday, however, some weeks we will be taking the children outside so please ensure that your child has appropriate outdoor kit. It is school policy that no jewellery is worn for P.E. due to health and safety reasons.
Reading books are changed on a Tuesday and a Friday. If your child needs to change their book, please sign and date the reading record to show that you have read with your child.
Thank you for all your continued support.
The Reception Team
The children had lots of fun today raising money for Children in Need. They enjoyed making a Pudsey biscuit, colouring, dressing up in their own clothes and had a special Big Tuck. What a fantastic day we had!
Reception took part in their Memorial Walk on Thursday 15th November. We walked around the perimeter of the playground three times. We are hoping the children will raise lots of money from this.
As part of our new project 'Festivals and Celebrations' we had a Bonfire in Forest School. We had lots of fun on Friday at our Bonfire! Mr Herbert did a great job keeping the Bonfire going whilst we had our special Bonfire lunch. We enjoyed eating our dinner and puddings by the heat of the fire. We waved our special word sparklers in the air that we had made during the week. We really enjoyed ourselves and it was a great start to our new project.
As part of our entry point for our new project 'Festivals and Celebrations', we will be having a mini bonfire outside in the Forest School area (weather permitting). The children will take part in fun activities throughout the day and will have a special 'bonfire' themed lunch. Please could you send your child to school with a warm coat, hats, scarves and gloves and appropriate footwear.
Thanks for all of your continued support.
We had lots of fun learning all about different people who can help us. We learnt about firefighters, doctors, vets, dentists, paramedics and road safety. We took part in lots of different activities throughout the day. We all had a super time , take a look at the photos.
We have really enjoyed learning about numbers to five this half term. We have been watching Numberblocks, using tens frames, whole-part-part diagrams and lots more! Take a look at the photos to see how much we love maths.
A big welcome to all our new Reception children and well done for settling so quickly into Timberley!
We hope you all had a fantastic Summer!
Our Reception children have been having a lovely time exploring their new learning environment and getting to know their teachers. We have had so much fun this week and we have lots of exciting things coming up soon so keep checking here to find out more!
We have sent your child home with a reading book this week for them to share with you. We would appreciate it if you could take some time to read regularly with your child and then write a small comment in the reading diary to let us know how they got on. Please encourage the children to talk about the pictures and the characters in the story and to support you with this we will be sending home a book mark with ideas and prompts. Our book changing days are Tuesday and Friday, please encourage your child to put their reading book and reading diary into the book change box on these days as they come into the classroom.
Our PE day is Tuesday so please ensure your child has a PE kit in school and that all of their items are clearly labelled with their name. Children with earrings must either remove them on this day or come to school with plasters covering their earrings for health and safety reasons. Also a polite reminder that it is school policy to wear stud earrings only.
Thank you for your support.
