Timberley Academy

Reception

Welcome to Reception

We would like to say a big hello and welcome to Reception! We can't wait to get all of the children settled in and to start our Timberley journey together.

This half term our project is called 'All About Me'. We will be learning all about ourselves and our families and things that we like to do.

In Personal, Social and Emotional Development we will be introducing the children to the essentials of friendship, belonging and caring. We will also focus on class rules and expectations.

In Physical Development we will be developing Beanbag skills. We will learn how to balance a beanbag and move it with good control. We will also learn how to throw the beanbag at a target and take turns with a partner.

In Literacy we will be using Read Write Inc to develop our phonic knowledge. We will be using Ready Steady Write to develop our writing skills and over this half term we will be focusing on the book The Something by Rebecca Cobb.

In Mathematics we will be learning how to subitise, compare and discovering the composition of numbers to 5. We will also explore shapes and use positional language.

In Understanding the World we will be tinkering and exploring computer hardware and learning how to operate a camera.

In Expressive Arts and Design we will exploring mark making through different drawing materials and beginning to draw from observation using faces and self-portraits as a stimulus.  Our children will also explore the differences between fruits and vegetables using their senses (taste, texture, smell etc.). They will listen to the story ‘The best pumpkin soup’ and discuss the key ingredients the characters used before developing a class-based vegetable soup recipe.

Autumn 1 Newsletter

We would like to welcome you all to Reception. We hope you had a wonderful summer. We are really looking forward to getting to know you all and we have got lots of exciting things planned.

This half term our project is called ‘All About Me’. We will be learning all about ourselves and our families and things that we like to do. We will be doing lots of activities to encourage new friendships and building relationships to start us on our Timberley journey. It would be lovely if you could send in a copy of a photograph of you and your family so that we can share them with each other.

In Phonics we will be following the Read Write Inc programme. We would like to invite you to come and see a phonics lesson in action on Wednesday 16th October at 2.30pm. Here are some useful websites to support your child with their phonics.

We will send a reading book and a reading diary home with your child for you to share and enjoy together. Staff in school will also hear your child reading their reading book in school during the week so please make sure they have their reading book with them every day. Please ensure that you have signed and dated the diary once you have completed the book to show that you have heard your child read. There is a space for you to write a comment if you wish to. Books will be changed at different points throughout the week, unfortunately we will not be able to send a new book home if you haven’t returned it.

We will be starting a new writing scheme called Ready Steady Write, we can’t wait to share some of our wonderful work with you.

In Maths this half term we will be concentrating on numbers from 1 to 5 and comparing groups of objects. We will also be learning about patterns, positional language and times of the day. This is a useful link to help your child at home.

PE days will be on a Monday and a reminder that children should come to school dressed in their PE clothes (white T-shirt, black/navy shorts/jogging bottoms, trainers/pumps with Velcro, until they are able to tie their own laces) all earrings/jewellery should be removed before school please. If children do come to school with earrings in they will not be able to join in with their PE lesson.

Named water bottles will need to be brought to school each day filled with water (no fizzy or energy drinks). Fruit is provided for the children during snack time each day so the children will not need to bring in their own snack, however, if you would like to send in a piece of fruit or a frube yogurt for your child each day please feel free to do so (if you are sending in grapes please ensure they are cut in half vertically). Please ensure all uniform, coats and water bottles are clearly named. Children can have a drink of milk with their snack but in order to receive this you must have registered your child and their class name on the ‘Cool Milk’ website. As soon as your child is 5 there is a charge for the milk.

Children will be taking part in messy play, therefore, please provide a set of spare clothes in a named bag that can be left on their peg in case they need it.

Just a reminder that gates open at 8.40am and children will need to be in school before 9.00 and then collected at 3.25.

Attendance is really important to us at Timberley Academy and if your child achieves 100% attendance they will receive rewards.  However, if there is any reason for your child to be absent from school then you must inform us via the school app.

Thank you all for your support. We look forward to a wonderful year.
