Home Learning!

A big well done to the children who have accessed our Year 2 home learning this week. It's great to see you working so hard. Thank you to the parents who have been in touch this week via the Year 2 email. We are here to help with any questions you have or support you may need, so please do get in touch.

If you are struggling to access any of the home learning, please contact us and we can support you accessing the learning.

We miss all of our Year 2 children so much and are working hard to support the learning for those who are in school and at home.

Our personal goal for this half term is 'Respect'. We have previously focussed on resilience and communication. Children who have shown this have been awarded with a certificate. So this half term we will be looking out for children understanding, showing or being respectful. Children you may like to contact your teachers on j2e to tell them how you are being respectful whilst at home, we would love to hear!

Take care and stay safe.

Buildings! Here you can find the key concept grid and big idea to support you with our 'Buildings' project!

Support with home learning

Home Learning πŸ“š

We would like to wish all of our Year 2 children and families a Happy New Year and hope you all had a restful Christmas.

We are so sorry that we can’t all be together in our classrooms over the coming weeks. We miss you all so much, but we have to follow the guidance to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

Until we can be back in the classroom together, we’ll be setting daily work for you to access from home. This can be found by using your email address and password to log into j2e. You will see the Year 2 Home Learning tile, then follow through the Spring 1 folder to relevant week.

We are now using Sway to make our home learning more accessible. All the information and links will be on the daily Sway for you to access. Please save any work you do onto your pupil files so us teachers can have a look and comment on your work.

We’ve tried to keep the home learning as close to what we would have been doing in school, had school still been open to us all. So for Maths, you’ll be completing work on multiplication and division. For Literacy, you’ll be completing work on traditional tales, starting with the Three Little Pigs. Finally for Project, you’ll be learning all about Buildings.

There will also be some work on ICT/RE/PE for you to complete too!

Take care, stay safe and happy learning! 🌳

In Year 2 next week(23rd-27th November), the children will be taking part in the Phonics Screening Check. The children will be reading 40 words (some real, some nonsense) with their class teacher.

The children will be sent home with a booklet, so they can practise reading at home too!

Please encourage your child to spot the special friends, fred talk and read the word.

For example:

crunch

The special friend is ch

Fred talk  c-r-u-n-ch

Read the word crunch

The children are fantastic at spotting the special friends and have been working so hard to read words accurately!

Keep up the hard work Year2!

Year 2 Phonics Screening Check

Next half term the children in Year 2 will have to sit the Phonics Screening Check.

This should have been administered in the Summer term of Year 1, but due to school closures as a result of the pandemic, the government have informed schools it must be administered to Year 2 children during Autumn term.

What is the Phonics Screening Check?

The phonics screening check is a booklet containing 40 words. Some of the words are real, some are nonsense words. The Phonics Screening Check, checks the children know the sounds that have been taught and can read these sounds in both real and nonsense words.

What can we do to help?

In school the children are receiving daily speed sound lessons, in which they are taught Set1, 2 and 3 speed sounds. The children have time to practise reading these sounds in words. This allows us to see how accurately the children are reading.

We will continue to send home resources for the children to use at home. Please ensure your child is practising the sounds and words that are sent home.

We have also added lots of resources onto our home learning folder.

Take a look at the video below for more information smiley

Home reading books will be being sent home today! 🀩

Your child will be sent home with a new home reading diary and reading book today. Children need to bring the diary and book into school everyday. This is so children can read their book during reading time and we can listen to their super reading. We’re very lucky to have some new books for Year 2 to enjoy and  will be encouraging the children to take good care of them.

Books will be changed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It is important that your child reads their book more than once to develop fluency and build confidence in reading. You may also see some questions to read and answer in the books, this is to support your child’s understanding of the book and help develop their comprehension.

Happy reading! πŸ“š

3.9.2020

It has been lovely 😊 welcoming all of the children back to school 🏫 today. Children that attended have been a credit to you all. We are very proud πŸ₯° of them!

Here are just a few reminders for you:

  • Please send your child in with a non fizzy drink that is clearly labelled as we can no longer provide water bottles in school. Please label 🏷 the bottle clearly with your child’s name.
  • Fruit for morning break will be provided from Tuesday so please send in a healthy snack for your child. Please make sure they bring it with them in the morning. 😊
  • Children do not need to bring pencil cases into school 🏫 because we will provide them with their own resources to use in lessons.
  • PE for Year 2 will be on a Thursday. On that day, children should attend school in their PE kit. The kit should be suitable for outdoor PE.
  • Please make sure that all items of belongings are labelled with your child’s name so we can easily find missing items.
  • When you are collecting your children at 3.05pm, please queue at a safe distance to make dismissal more effective! πŸ˜‰

We are really looking forward to working with you and your children this year! πŸ˜ƒ
