Phonics Screening Check
If your child is in year 1 this year then they will be taking part in the phonics screening check during the week beginning 17th June 2013. Your child will be asked to read 40 words, 20 real words and 20 nonsense or non words. Your child will be given a score and as a school we will be informed about the number of words children must read correctly to reach the expected level. Last year the children had to read 32 words correctly to pass.
If your child does not read the number of words, set by the government, correctly then they will receive extra support during year 2 and will take part in the check again at the end of year 2.
If your child is currently in year 2 and did not read the expected number of words in year 1 then you were informed of this with their annual report. Your child will take part in the phonics screening check again in year 2, during the week beginning 17th June 2013.
