As you are aware, the children currently in Year 1 will take the Phonics Screening Check assessment during thee week beginning Monday 6th July. Each child will be asked to read 40 words, some real and some 'alien' words. 'Alien words' are words that are made up of different sounds to check the children's ability to decode words. The children have worked extremely hard, since joining reception, to learn the sounds. The check will be completed in a completely relaxed, child-friendly environment, so they are unaware of the assessment side. 

We are very grateful for all the support you have given your child in helping them to become readers. We have also been asked how you can support at home. We have sent out phonic activities as homework this half term, and have sent out copies of the flashcards that we use in school, so the children can practise at home too- sorry if that meant you have to be 'taught' by them, whilst they were playing teachers! Below you will also find a list of videos that cover the special friends teaching, in the way that we do in the classroom. These videos can be played at any time- whilst getting dressed for school, waiting for dinner to cook, just before bedtime. Any time, any place! These links will last until 3rd July. If you require them after that time, we are more than happy to do that for you.
