SEND Support - A Note from Nichola Jones (Assistant Director Inclusion, SEND and Wellbeing)

Dear Parent,

I hope you and your family are well. I’m getting in touch to invite you to take part in our short survey to share your experiences during lockdown and tell us your views on the support you have received from different education services.

Please complete one survey for each child or young person with SEND. The survey is anonymous, however you can choose to include your contact details at the end if you would like to be more involved in shaping future SEND services.

Here at Timberley our main logo is our Timberley Tree 🌳 

But we are looking for something new 👀 🌟 

Next year (Sep 2020) we are revamping our curriculum, we will be focusing more on 6 personal goals: 

Independence, Resilience, Co-operation, Communication, Respect, Thoughtfulness.

We would love for you to have a think about what those words mean to you and see if you can design a logo that we can attach to our new curriculum 🖼 

Parents/Carers you’re more than welcome to have a go at designing a logo too 👩‍🎨

Monday 1st June 🌈 

Wow!! Can you believe it is June already?! 😮💓

We hope you had a lovely half term and you enjoyed the sunshine, but most importantly you stayed safe. ☀️ 

It was so lovely to hear from you all on the phone and we have been loving the updates and emails we have been getting. 📞 So many children who have lost teeth, learnt how to ride their bike and are enjoying spending time with their family. We are so proud. 🚲 🦷 🧩 🏡

What a lovely day!!! ☀️ what have you got planned today?? Today is the perfect day for a bit of water play to keep you cool. 💦 And thinking about that, today’s Waffle’s challenge is: 

Can you create a shelter for your toy? ⛺️ 🧸  Using different materials you have around your house. Can you test your shelter and see if it protects your toy from water? 🏕 🌧 

When you’ve done that you could even make a boat 🛥 for your toy 🧸 and then test if it floats??

Just have fun 🥰 Try lots of different materials and just see what happens. Remember to try and “predict” what you think will happen before you test. Can you record your results?🕵🏼‍♀️👨🏻‍🔬

If there's something you would like to do in addition to these tasks, feel free to send us a photo! Perhaps you could have a little tea party with the animals from Room on the Broom 🥪or maybe you could create a story map to show what happens in the story 📝! Whatever you decide to do, have fun! 
 

This week's daily task is something that you all know very well Year 1 because it was one of our projects when we were in school 🏫 ! Materials! We had so much fun sorting, feeling and describing lots of different materials 🧽 ⛓💎🛢! Do you remember all the different toys we made from our junk modelling sessions? I do! I also remember the fun we had when we were investigating materials that were magnetic 🧲 !  Such fun!

This week we have some really exciting activities. We have set Purple Mash, Mathletics and Education City as normal. Also remember there are phonics sessions on Ruth Miskin’s RWI YouTube and BBC Bitesize has lots of fantastic learning opportunities and lessons too 🥰🌟

Hi Year One 🥰

I have been joining in with today’s Pyjamarama activities with my favourite author. I do love David Walliams 💓! I read my book to my dog, Daisy 🐶. 

My favourite chapter in this book is Bonnie Bossypants. She is soooo awful until Wonder Nanny comes to visit 👵🏻. The bit I thought was gross was when Bonnie collected lots of cheese, including foot cheese 🧀! Yuck! 🤢 Then Wonder Nanny got her own back by sending lots of spiders to Bonnie’s house 🕷😮! Bonnie doesn’t like spiders at all, I wonder if that made her behave? 🤔

Good morning everyone 🥰!

Today is such an exciting day, it’s PYJAMARAMA day!! 📖 Oh I wish we were at school for today, we would have all come in in our PJs and shared stories together and drank hot chocolate and had a lovely day 🌟 

Luckily, Pyjamarama is a very easy day you can join in with at home 🥰! Your challenge for today is to share a story with a member of your family; mum, dad, brother, sister, dog, cat?! 🐱

Whoever you like and then send us a picture of you reading your story. 🌟

Remember there are also lots of stories on CBeebies Bedtime Stories and BBC Iplayer is still playing the Julia Donaldson stories 🥰💓!

You could even draw a picture of your favourite part or write a book review and send that too✍🏻.

Today it is Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday! He has now raised over £29 million for the NHS! 💓Can you believe that?! Tonight when our street is clapping they are also singing happy birthday to him, I wonder if yours will too? 🎂 🎈

Good Morning Year 1 🥰💓.

We hope you are well and staying safe. Today we have some ideas for activities that you could do when you’re thinking “I’m bored... 😴.”

We have been making birthday cards today for Captain Tom , have you seen his amazing story?? He has raised over £10 million for the NHS and he turns 100 soon 🎂 🎈 You can join in too, it’s easy 🥰 All you need to do is-

1. Make a birthday card at home for Tom with pen and paper

2. Ask and adult to share on your choice of social media. If you use Twitter, tag @timberleysch too so we can see 🎉

3. Use the hashtag #makeacardfortom so all the birthday cards can be collated together.

Morning Year 1 🥰

What a wonderful Wednesday, the sun is shining here ☀️ so we’re going to go out into the garden and plant some sunflower seeds. We’re having a competition in our family to see who can grow the tallest sunflower. 🌻 Have any of you been planting or gardening while you’ve been at home? 🌱 

As it’s Wednesday I thought I would share another link to some well-being activities that you can do at home 😊. We hope you had a lovely weekend. It was Darcey’s birthday so we had lots of cake and played in the garden 💓

Thursday 2nd April 

Good morning, Year 1! 
 

I hope you all had a fantastic day yesterday, filled with fun and a little bit of learning!
 

We have been thinking about what today's challenge could be! We thought how about Throwback Thursday! 
Spend some time looking back through old photos of you and other people in your family. Can you work out who is in the photo? Can you see any similar features? Can you see any differences between yourself and other people in your family? We would love to see some of these when we can all be back together again! 
 

We have heard that some of you fantastic children have managed to complete all of your paper home learning that was sent out. Parents, there is a link below to a website that have put together free home learning packs for children to complete. They are based on year groups so are quite useful! There’s also today’s scavenger hunt below.
 

The weather isn’t looking brilliant today, but I plan to go out for my daily exercise later on. Fingers crossed it doesn’t rain on me! I might even sit and enjoy another Disney movie this afternoon- I’m thinking Aladdin would be a choice for today! 
 

Whatever you are up to today, remember we all miss you very much and can’t wait to see you all. Also remember, we want you to stay save!

Today I am going to have a go at making a milk bottle Elmer the elephant! I have put the link below to show you what I mean. I wonder if any of you could have a go at this at home too 🥰! Maybe cut up some old magazines and make your Elmer covered in pictures of your favourite characters and things.

Monday 30th March

Good morning everybody 🥰!

We hope you had a lovely weekend and you’re ready for another week of learning from home. There are lots of different activities set on Purple Mash, Mathletics and Education City so have a look and have a go. Well done to those children who have completed last weeks too🥰

We will keep posting different ideas on here, so remember to check back each day. This week we are going to be setting a daily “hunt” that you can do around your house. I wonder how many things you can find!

Well, White Rose Maths have opened a “home learning hub” on their website. They are releasing a lesson a day with a short video clip and an activity to complete. 
We are currently looking at weight, mass, capacity and volume. Which can be really fun and easy to explore at home too. ⚖️

Friday 27th March

Wow Year 1 it is Friday already 🥰!

You’ve finished a whole week of learning from home. Well done to all of those children who have managed to logon to numbots, purple mash or education city and completed the work we have set. 
 

This weekend the weather is meant to get a bit cooler so I am planning on snuggling up and watching a film (hopefully Frozen 2), reading my favourite book, maybe playing a board game with my family and finally making a rainbow to put in her window! I hope you have some lovely plans too and remember stay safe!

We hope you are having a lovely day so far! The sun is shining and we are thinking about who is making the most of the sun, in a safe way. Maybe, you could do Joe Wicks PE sessions outside! There are lots of other online activities that you can complete. Oti Mabuse is doing a daily dance lesson on her YouTube channel, too! 

We have signed you all up to a free website where you can access lots of different books for free! All the details are below. You can access this through the website or via the app, which is free to download. We wonder who will read the most books. There are also little quizzes to complete at the end of some books.

Numbots

All children have been given a log on to the excited new app Numbots. In class, we will be sharing the achievements of the children on the app so please encourage your child to play every week. It is really important that all children have a quick recall of number facts to aid their progress in Maths. Numbots supports this and is a stepping stone for children when the start playing Times Table Rock Stars in Year 2.

Any issues with logging on, please let us know so we can look into this for you.

Our Special Bonfire Day

On Tuesday 5th November, Year 1 had a special Bonfire Day. This was part of our Entry Point for our new project 'Time Travellers'. This also linked to UK Parliament Week.

We started the day off watching a firework display and eating popcorn. During the day,  we toasted marshmallows on the fire in Forest School, made toffee apples and had a special party.

We are looking forward our new project which will include a trip to Blakelsey Hall.

Inspire Workshop

Thank you to all those that took time out to attend our Inspire Workshops. We hope you enjoyed spending time with your children exploring a variety of Maths activities.

Numbots is now available for all of the children to access at home. All children were given their own logon. Any issues, please do not hesitate to ask. Have lots of Maths fun!

WELCOME TO YEAR 1

We hope you all had a fantastic summer and have made some lovely memories with your children. We have had a great start to the new academic year.  All the children have settled in to life in Year 1 really quickly. They look so grown up in their school uniforms and have been making sure they keep all clothing together, in the correct places. We would ask that all clothing is labelled so that we can return any items to their owner. In any cases where property has been lost, there are now lost property bins at the main office where all items will be placed for parents retrieve.

We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children through the items that they bought in to share with us. On our first day, the children completed their very first piece of writing in Year 1 and we are so proud of how hard they worked on this. We are so excited to see how their reading and writing progress over the year. In Maths, the children have been using equipment to demonstrate their fantastic knowledge of numbers, which has amazed us.

This year, PE will take place on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure that your children has the correct PE kit in school. This is a white t-shirt, black shorts and a pair of pumps/trainers. Again, please ensure that all items are clearly labelled. We ask that PE kits are kept in school until the end of the half-term when children can bring them home to be washed.

The children have all been issued with a home-reading book and a diary. The children were very excited about this and could not wait to share their book with you. When you have read with your child, please sign their diary and once their book is complete, they can place it in the 'to-be-changed' box in school. There are no set days for reading books to be changed in Year 1. The children will receive rewards for the more books that they read.
