Welcome to Reception

Road Safety and Life Caravan

We have had a fun week this week with special visits from the Road Safety team and the Life Caravan.

The children enjoyed learning all about how to stay safe near roads and in cars during the road safety lesson. They had lots of fun learning about keeping healthy in the life caravan.

Take a look at the photos...

Ahoy there pirates!

Reception had a swashbuckling day dressed up as pirates, everyone looked amazing!

We had lots of fun taking part in different pirate adventures:

We had to help the pirates find their underpants in a treasure hunt!

We had fun climbing aboard a pirate ship!

We made pirate flags, biscuits, sang pirate songs, played pirate games and even joined in with pirate yoga!

We also had strict orders off Pirate Blackbeard to measure our pirate boot size and get into height order before we went to dinner!

Take a look at the photos and see how much fun we had.

World Book Day

We had lots of fun in Reception for World Book Day and everyone looked fantastic dressed up as different characters. We enjoyed going to the library to listen to a story and on the way back we kept our eyes peeled to try and find the Where's Wally that had been hidden around school. We enjoyed learning about the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and even took part in The Very Hungry Caterpillar themed yoga!

Face Painting

We were so lucky today to have Miss Tetley visit us and face paint some of our children.

Shrove Tuesday

Pancakes were enjoyed by all as we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. We talked about our favourite toppings and learnt about Shrove Tuesday and Lent.

Kung Hei Fat Choy!

We have had lots of fun learning all about Chinese New Year. We have listened to the animal story and discovered that 2018 is the year of the dog. We have written our wishes for the Chinese New Year, made lucky money envelopes and even tried some dragon dancing. Take a look at the photos to see for yourselves!

NSPCC Number Day

Today we had so much fun celebrating Number Day. We had lots of number activities to explore, including Numicon, games, dominoes, jigsaws and enjoyed singing number rhymes.

Egg...citing ice eggs!

Mr Griffiths came into Reception and told us about his adventure. When he went for a walk, he found some frozen dinosaur eggs and asked Reception to help him open the eggs carefully. We tried lots of different ways to release the hidden dinosaurs but we had to be careful so that we didn't hurt them. Take a look at our fun investigation.

Were You Inspired?

The Reception team would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to join in the fun at our Inspire Workshops. We hope you enjoyed it and found it useful. The children certainly enjoyed getting to spend time with their grown ups at school! We hope you enjoyed playing and making the games and that you are able to use these at home with your children. Thank you for your continued support.

We've had 'Bots' of fun!!!

The Bee-Bots visited Reception last week and the children had so much fun learning how to program them to move backwards and forwards, left and right! Take a look at the photos!

Welcome back!

We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and we would like to wish you all a very happy New Year,

We are very excited about our new project for this half term - Fantasies and Fairy Tales. We will be learning all about our favourite stories and the characters.

We have already used Press Play to listen to and take part in the story of Jack and the Beanstalk - we had lots of fun pretending to be Jack!

Please note our PE day has now changed to a Tuesday.

Thank you for your continued support.

RS and RL won the best class attendance!

As a special treat for being the best classes for coming to school, we set up a cinema in the classroom. We enjoyed eating popcorn and having a drink. We had lots of fun and we are going to try hard to come to school every day so that we can win again!

Once upon a time...

On Monday, Reception had their first visit to Timberley Library. Each child chose a book to take home to share with their grown ups.

We will be visiting the library every two weeks and the children will be able to change their books.

Incy Wincy Spider!

The children had a fantastic time outside yesterday working together to make our own Spider Webs! We used hoops and masking tape to make the web and then we used poms-poms for bugs! We had to throw the bugs at the webs to see which web caught the most! We read the story of 'The Very Busy Spider' by Eric Carle and we even watched a video of a real spider making a web! We found out that spiders make webs to catch bugs so they can eat them!  Take a look at our photos!

Halloween at Timberley!

We have had a fantastic day today dressing up in our Halloween costumes - take a look at how scary we look!

Festivals and Celebrations

We are glad to be back after our break and are so excited about learning lots of new things this half term. Our topic is all about festivals and celebrations. The children have told us that they want to learn about why we have festivals and celebrations. They also want to find out about the special food that people eat and clothes that they might wear. They even told us that they wanted to find out about festivals from around the world! We would welcome any photographs of the children attending a special celebration or festival.

All About Me

This half term we have been learning all about ourselves. So far we have talked about our families and friends and have completed our family trees. We have also talked about different occupations and the job that we would like to do when we are older. We have enjoyed painting pictures of our friends, looking carefully at their features. We have had an exciting week this week because we have had the opportunity to bring in our favourite toy. We have also been learning how to use the tablets to take a photograph of our friends.

P.E. Kits

Just to remind you that all of Reception do P.E. on Wednesdays. Children should keep their P.E. kits in school i.e. shorts, t-shirt and pumps. Please make sure that all kit is named. If your child wears earrings, these need to be removed before school on Wednesdays. Thank you.
